First Moscow paid bathhouses appeared in the early XVII century. At first men and women took steam bath together diverging on the bath opposite sides. But some time later a law was put forth which forbade men and women to visit bathhouse at the same time together. So the bath owners parted the room , made two exits and moved the stove in the middle of the bathhouse.
There was a bathhouse practically near the every Moscow riverside. Heated bathhouse visitors had an opportunity to souse in water in winter and summer and to come back to the full of live steam bathhouse.
Sandunovskie bathhouses and well-known today Central Chinese bathhouses were the best ones.
In 1806 Lomakinskie bathhouses were built. The bathhouses accommodations which were not known at that period in Moscow made these places popular for the highest society and the bathhouses practically turned into clubs.
Central bathhouses were built to excel Lomakinskie at comfort and luxury. But the Lomakinskie bathhouses owners rebuilt them and made them more luxury and coincided the opening with the tzar Nikolay II coronation.
A separate water pipe of new Lomakinskie bathhouses was installed and it permit to use water from the most pure places of the Moscow river. Famous environmentalist Erismann known as objective and incorruptible scientist publicly confirmed this fact. Also second Moscow electrical power supply was installed to illuminate bathhouses rooms.
Live pool’s water was approbated right before visitors’ eyes every two hours.
Griboedov and Pushkin Moscow representatives were the main bathhouse visitors in the meantime. According to Gilyarovskiy we know that the great poet was not unwilling to visit these bathhouses. By the way these bathhouses exist up to now.
